Chris + Eugenie’s Belle Mer Island House Wedding Newport

May 21, 2014

By Mariah Ashley

Prepare to be charmed by Eugenie and Chris and their Belle Mer Island House Wedding. They are a “cute-as-a-button” couple with an equally as adorable love story. Eugenie and Chris met at a summer job at the tender age of 13. Eugenie took one look at Chris and was struck with the premonition that she was staring at her future husband. I have an “almost” 13 year old daughter, so I am well aware of the train of thought of a 13 year old. Aah, but Eugenie was no ordinary 13 year old girl. Eugenie thought to herself, hmmm… if Chris is meant to be my future husband would it really be wise to date him now and risk screwing up my happily ever after? Showing what can only be described as super human restraint and a very un-teenage-girl style, Eugenie willed herself not to get involved with Chris until they were older and her future as Mrs. Fanning could be secured.

So, here we are many years later watching Eugenie walk down to aisle to FINALLY become Mrs. Fanning and we are so happy her very mature teenage strategy paid off. All that time waiting gave Chris and Eugenie the opportunity to grow into best friends and soul mates. Being man and wife is now just the icing on the wedding cake!

When Eugenie stepped into her very sparkly, very fabulous Daniella Caprese gown, her bridesmaids exclaimed, “You look just like a Degas ballerina!” I have to agree, Eugenie was perfection, a work of art in her gown.

Jennie Kay’s beauty team created all the lovely hairstyles and flawless makeup for the ladies. Kim Lamothe of Green Lion Design provided the gorgeous flowers. We love her attention to detail right down to the exquisite calligraphy-ed tags for the boutonnieres and bouquets. The sweet little cake was provided by Longwood Events. Murray Hill Talent {DJ Scott} was on hand to get the celebration underway. The view at Belle Mer never disappoints and the Island House as recently undergone some renovation making shooting there that much more fantastic. There’s nothing quite like a Belle Mer Island House wedding on a sunny spring afternoon.

Trish teases me because I love reflections and am always looking for them. Mirrors are an obvious choice but any reflective surface will do. A reflection adds immediate interest and a little mystery to a photo. I like to spice up my detail shots with a reflection when I can. Trish found me the vase in the suite and it was perfect to highlight Eugenie’s heels.

0064More reflection action, this time the snap girls are getting in on it. Believe it or not the bridesmaids in the mirror shot in the above post was not our stroke of genius, it was one of the bridesmaids! Great suggestion and a really cute photo. I loved these girls, they really out their all in to making great photos for their friend Eugenie. Thanks ladies!!!0065Trish and I always make a game plan for the location of the family and bridal party formals. It’s really important to pick a spot with the prettiest light. Nice soft light will be flattering for the portraits so we really try to avoid areas with harsh highlights and shadows. Unfortunately, many people have in mind the water as a backdrop. More often than not this spells disaster for family pics. So, if on your day you are wondering why we have chosen a non- water view for the portraits that’s the reason. We had another element working against us at Eugenie and Chris’ wedding… wind! it was crazy windy so we had to avoid the water view and stay in the relatively un-breezy nook protected by the building. Luckily this spot had perfect lighting for our portraits. It might not look like the best spot to the eye, but with the proper lens and angle it’s very dreamy.0066We’re so lucky to receive glowing referrals from our past clients. A big blog hug to Maria and Nick who also had a Belle Mer Island House wedding back in September of 2011. Click HERE to step into the way back machine for their wedding. They have a beautiful baby girl now, it was so fun to see them and we’re so thankful they sent us Eugenie and Chris.0067
